The weather cleared today, it’s been rainy and miserable for the better part of a week at Renly’s camp. I suppose I’d best enjoy the roof over my head while I have a chance, when this army gets marching it’ll be back to tent living for me. Are you doing well? Are you eating enough? I know sometimes you skip meals, and you’re too skinny to get away with it, so ease my mind and write me back that you’re eating enough.
I’m sure you’ve heard by now but I’ll pass it along on the off chance you haven’t. It seems Lord Robb Stark, I refuse to call that traitor a King, won a battle at Riverrun, defeating ser Jaime Lannister’s army of 16,000 men with very few losses. No one is sure yet what happened to Ser Jaime, but it seems he’s either been captured or killed. It seems to have been an amazing victory, the Lannisters forces weren’t even routed, they were killed or captured, and the survivors seem to be scattered beyond any hope of recovery. No even seems sure how many men lord Stark had, but all the accounts agree that his losses were few, that he lead from the front, and that he has a Direwolf the size of a boar.
There was another battle in the Riverlands between House Stark and House Lannister, at the Green Forks. It seems to have been a victory for House Lannister, but we haven’t received very many details yet about what happened. It seems to be Lord Roose Bolton who was commanding the Northmen, and Lord Tywin Lannister commanding the Lannister forces. But whatever happened, Tywin moved back to Harrenhal, and we don’t know where Bolton’s army is… my guess would be they either fled toward the Vale, or back north toward the Twins.
The melee finished here today, Ser Edmund Blackadder won, with Ser Kaegran Agros the runner up. took 3rd, a swordswoman, and was added to Cousin Renly’s Rainbow Guard… his new version of the Kingsguard. It seems a little silly to me, but, well… they usually don’t ask me about that sort of thing. Though that may change in the future. Cousin Renly asked me to go over his letters and sort what was important for him, so hopefully I’ll be able to help the Kingdom a little more than I thought.
