“When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die.”

King Robert Baratheon I is dead. His son, Joffrey Baratheon, has claimed the Iron Throne in King’s Landing, but Eddard Stark, before his execution, sent out a letter proclaiming that Joffrey is a bastard, born from the incestuous love of Queen Cersei Lannister and her brother, Ser Jaime Lannister the Kingslayer.

In the North, Robb Stark, son of Eddard, has named himself King in the North and seceded from the Seven Kingdoms. He is in full command of the forces of the North and the Riverlands as he marches south to reclaim his father’s corpse and be recognized.

Offshore, Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands, has also seceded from the Kingdoms and is sending his troops to make bloody war with the mainland.

Stannis Baratheon, brother of King Robert and the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne if Eddard is to believed, has raised an army at Dragonstone. Backed by the mysterious Red Woman, he demands the Iron Throne for himself.

Finally, Renly Baratheon, younger brother of both Robert and Stannis, Lord of Storm’s End, is making a bid for the Iron Throne. The young lord is backed by 80,000 spears from the Stormlands and the Reach. But, his brother Stannis rages at him from across the sea and King Joffrey and his advisors plot his quick and brutal demise.

This is where we begin our story: you are recent arrivals in Renly’s camp, here to gift your House’s support to Renly’s cause, but The War of the Five Kings has only just begun.
